Fedmas Assay Office S/B was intentionally set up in 1987 to support gold manufacturers belonging to the Federation Of Goldsmiths & Jewellers Association Of Malaysia (FGJAM), which are scattered throughout the country. With the establishment of such an assay office, exporters were now in better position to plan and schedule their production. As a consequence, the jewellery indsutry in Malaysia expanded.
Gold retailers also benefited indirectly from establishment of an assay occie in that they can now verify, in confidence, the purity of their gold articles on display in their stores, or even before any sale is transacted between retailers and their wholesalers or suppliers.
